Mr D Math Geometry Review | Empowering Independence and Confidence
You know what terrifies me? High school math. 🤣
Yep, I’ve been there already, staring at those thick, intimidating textbooks, trying to remember what all those formulas even mean, and breaking a cold sweat. But then we stumbled upon something magical the self-paced math courses with Mr. D Math!
Let me tell you, it has been a game-changer for us!
We started using Mr. D Math back in 6th grade with their awesome Mr D Math pre-algebra course. It was so great for us that we knew we had to stick with it for the rest of high school math, too.
Marc already finished Mr D Math Algebra 1 as well (and a review for that is coming soon with more personal anecdotes). So, when it was time for another math this year, there was no doubt in our minds – Mr. D Math Geometry it was!
And boy, did it live up to our expectations!

Mr D Math Geometry Review
TLDR Summary: Mr. D Math’s Geometry course is another Mr. D course that doesn’t disappoint.
This blended program of online instruction and offline worksheets works wonders for a lot of homeschool families.
What sets Mr D Math apart from other high school math programs is Mr. D’s dedication to make math approachable and interesting for as many children as possible.
Through extensive first-hand experience and a desire to help change traditional math approaches into something more easily digestible for kids, Mr. Dennis DiNoia managed to create a one-of-a-kind math curriculum that goes beyond math: it fosters independence and responsibility and helps students become more involved in their learning.
It’s no wonder Mr. D Math is one of the most recommended math programs once your kids hit the middle school years.

About Mr. D Math
Now, I am hopeful you already know whom I am talking about, but just in case you are new here, let me introduce you to Mr. D Math aka Dennis DiNoia. He’s not just a math teacher; he’s a passionate educator with over 30 years of experience teaching math to all kinds of high school children, from public schools to private schools to homeschooling environments.
Dennis DiNoia realized early on that something wasn’t quite right with the traditional approach to math education. Many kids were struggling, and the subject often felt daunting and unapproachable. That’s when he decided to take matters into his own hands and create an amazing math program that would transform the way kids learn math.
Drawing from his extensive experience and direct interactions with real kids and families, he crafted a math curriculum that turned math learning into something kids actually look forward to – something exciting and enjoyable, even for those who were once reluctant about the subject.
And so, our favorite curriculum for high school math was born!
But don’t let the name fool you; Mr. D extended his philosophy of raising independent and responsible learners to other courses as well! Right now, they offer a diverse range of classes in various domains:
- American Sign Language (ASL)
- Athletics
- College and Career Readiness
- Economics
- Language Arts
- Math Courses
- Music and Dance
- Study Skills (read our review)
- Summer Courses (Math and Technology)
- Technology
- Test Prep (Math for SAT, ACT, and PERT)
We’re already huge supporters of Mr. D Math because Mr. D Math Geometry (our 7th grade math) is the third math class we are taking with Mr. D and it’s already promising to be another successful math year!
Moreover, it’s a math course fully supported by our accredited distance learning school, Bridgeway Academy, which simplifies things a lot for me.
So read on about our growing experience with Mr D Math and feel free to try it out yourself and see if it would be a good fit for your family as well.
Embracing the Freedom of Self Paced Learning with Mr. D Math: Confidence, Independence, Responsibility
After spending the past year covering two of Mr. D’s math levels, I have a pretty clear picture of what makes this curriculum so appealing to us (and many other parents). It’s not just one thing, but a combination that I’ve come to appreciate: from the clear explanations, the simplified format, complete answers, help available in multiple forms, and many more.
I won’t bore you with a lot of details, but Mr. DiNoia has this unique teaching philosophy that encourages kids to be self-sufficient and responsible learners. I read his book, TEACH (review here if you want to read more) and it completely opened my eyes to several things.
What’s our goal with math? What’s our goal with learning, really? It’s not grades, not even graduation… it’s teaching kids to LEARN and fostering curiosity and exploration. At the same time, we want them to grow confident in what they know and responsible in whatever they chose to do.
And I know we forget these points sometimes, and sometimes curricula we choose just aren’t flexible enough (we’ve been miserable through math at times). But Mr. D showed us that things can be done differently.
Mr D Math created a math curriculum that goes beyond math. It encourages kids to become confident, independent, and responsible learners!
Kids take the lead 🚀
When we allow kids to learn at their own pace, magic happens. They can explore subjects more deeply or spend more time on challenging concepts, and move quickly through material they find easier. The result? A deeper understanding of the subject and increased confidence.
I’ve seen the power of self-paced learning from the beginning. This allowed Marc to accelerate in subjects that interested him, like chemistry, but also to set solid bases for subjects like writing composition, which isn’t his favorite. Yet, I was still reluctant to try it out with math.
But, as you know, if you listen to the subtle signs, you know when your kids have had enough and are ready to move on. That’s what happened to us with math. When I decided to let Marc skip ahead to high school math in 6th grade I didn’t know if it would work or if he was ready. But now I am convinced I took the right decision!
I love how Mr. D Math provides a perfect blend of online video lessons and printable worksheets, allowing kids to work through the material at a pace that suits them best. He also offers live online classes for those who need them but we have loved their self-paced learning classes.
Empowering Responsible Independence and Building Confidence 💪🌟
I love how Mr. D Math is not just about academic progress, but a journey of empowerment.
I’ve noticed something Mr. D does is trust kids. He trusts kids enough to give them free access to step-by-step, complete answers. He trusts them enough to allow self-grading and self-checking because he knows that seeing where they made mistakes is helping them understand them. And true learning happens when you understand your mistakes.
That was one of the most puzzling changes in our homeschool. We went from the traditional teacher-corrected work to student-corrected and self-evaluation. And it blew my mind! Not only did Marc embrace this change but it also made him more careful when answering questions in the first place and surprisingly, more responsible.
This is where I feel Mr. D Math’s self-paced classes and phylosophy of teaching add the most value to us. Marc has transformed from parent-dependent to math independence. But what’s more, I’ve seen his math-confidence boost and he isn’t complaining about math anymore!
But…but… won’t kids cheat if given access to the answers?
Mr D Math is set up in such a way that makes cheating difficult. Because once kids self-check the workbook, they are faced with an online quiz on the lesson they just completed. So if they skipped the lesson and copied the answers, there’s no way they understood it, and no way to pass the test. A simple and effective solution! Kids will soon figure out it takes less work to simply go through the lesson and try to understand it than to struggle through the quizzes.
Personalized Support and Guidance 🤝🔍
Does self-paced learning mean kids are on their own? Not at all!
Mr. D Math, unlike other self-paced learning platforms, provides extensive support and guidance to students. Live help sessions, access to teachers through messaging, and step-by-step solutions to problems ensure that kids receive all the assistance they need.
Mr D Math Geometry Curriculum Overview
This high school math curriculum covers everything you’d expect from a rigorous geometry course, but it’s nothing like those traditional, mind-numbing textbooks.
Oh no, it’s a breath of fresh air!
Marc can navigate Mr. D Math Geometry with ease and is actually excited about learning geometry and showing me all he’s learned. That’s a huge plus for us. Math went from being a chore to actually being fun, quick, and interesting!
He’s already grasped the formulas for distance and midpoint along with discovering -with great excitement- that there’s a shortcut for the Pythagorean Theorem called the Triplets. I know these because he explained them to me eagerly!
This is something Mr D encourages (kids explaining concepts to parents) and is a great way for him to reinforce his knowledge while also boosting his confidence for having taught me something new for a change. It’s a win-win situation.
I love that Mr. D assumes nothing. Starting from the basics, like points, lines, angles, and planes – Mr. D Math Geometry takes kids on an exciting journey to advanced topics like trigonometry and geometric probability. And what’s best, I don’t even have to know what all these even mean, because I know Mr. D has got my back, fully supporting Marc’s learning.
And you know how I know it’s working? Bridgeway Academy has us take three assessments per year. The first test is a benchmark where kids are expected to underperform, but Marc already has a 71% and is positioned in the 99th percentile for high school geometry! He barely started 7th grade.
Mr. D Math words and it’s a great math curriculum!
What’s Covered
The chapters of Mr D Math Geometry follow the same pattern: video instruction, workbook problems, self-check and grading, and quizzes. There are also Spiral reviews, 2 semester exams, and Honors sections included.
This geometry course is split into well-defined chapters, each tackling specific geometry topics. We’ve got these chapters (with multiple lessons each):
- Chapter 1 – Points, Lines, Planes, and Angles
- Chapter 2 – Reasoning and Proof
- Chapter 3 – Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
- Chapter 4 – Triangles
- Chapter 5 – Quadrilaterals
- Chapter 6 – Similarity
- Chapter 7 – Right Triangles and Trigonometry
- Chapter 8 – Area and Perimeter
- Chapter 9 – Surface Areas and Volume
- Chapter 10 – Circles Chapter 11 – Transformations
- Chapter 12 – Geometric Probability
Phew, that’s a lot, right? But don’t you worry; it’s all presented in a way that won’t make your kids or your head spin. Mr. D Math has a magical way of making high school math feel like a breeze. Even I am grasping geometry concepts I have long forgotten or never even heard about!
Mr D Geometry High School Curriculum Set Up
I’ve already talked extensively about how the classes are presented in my Mr. D Math Prealgebra review, so I won’t go into much detail here because the format remains the same for all the classes. What’s new in Algebra 1 and Geometry are the Honors sections.
Live or self-paced
All Mr. D’s math courses give you an option of live classes or self-paced. I love that homeschool families have these flexible options!
The difference between these is obvious: with the live classes kids meet online with their teacher once per week while the self-paced classes are well… self-paced.
And something else of interest for some of you: Mr D Math’s LIVE classes are NCAA approved.
Online lessons and quizzes
The self-paced geometry course is a blend of online video lessons and printable worksheets.
I feel that it’s the perfect balance of online and offline to solidify the information without being redundant and boring kids to death.
The online component rocks! Bite-sized videos (about 15-20 minutes) make learning enjoyable, and there are quizzes for each lesson, chapter tests, and even semester exams to get kids to dig deeper into the concepts they are studying.
Marc loves Mr. D Math’s fast pace and fun attitude towards math. It’s something uniquely Mr D that we adore in our homeschool.
Offline reinforcement
One of the aspects I love about Mr D is the fact that they offer printable worksheets so kids can take the knowledge they gained offline. I feel this really helps solidify the concepts because there’s nothing quite like working on paper.
Because of this, I feel that Marc’s retention of each concept stays with him long-term. Trust me, I’ve tested him on his Algebra 1 knowledge over the summer, and he remembers everything, even the formulas. This was an unexpectedly welcome surprise coming from an online math course.
You have an option to download the workbook as you go or print the whole thing, chapter by chapter, at the beginning of the year.
I always print our workbooks and bind them so it feels like we have a book for math.
One thing that’s missing and I added are covers. This year I created Mr. D Math Geometry covers (and chapter covers) so it’s easier for Marc to keep track of his work. You can download them for free from my Resource Library by subscribing below (you will get a password to access all my free printables).

Credits and Honors
Completing Mr. D Math’s Geometry course gives kids a full high school credit! But they also offer more for those who wish it.
The honors sections are a little different from what you’d traditionally expect, but in the most exciting way! Instead of tackling crazy-hard problems, kids will be delving into the real-world applications of the math concepts they’re learning.
And they get not one, but two chances to ace their tests and honors sections. So, there’s no need to stress or test anxiety. It’s all about embracing the learning process and exploring math.
The best part? The honors won’t mess with their grades; it’s a simple pass or fail deal, and the focus is on the journey of learning and growth.
How cool is that? Mr. D is the coolest math teacher around (and I’ve been looking!).

Mr D Math versus Thinkwell or Derek Owens
When it comes to choosing the best high school math curriculum, I take my research seriously. I’ve scoured the options we had and even tried out a few with free trials to see how they stack up. After careful consideration, both Marc and I have voted for Mr. D Math as the clear winner.
What sets Mr. D Math apart from the rest? Well, there are several points:
Platforms
Mr. D Math has nailed it with the most up-to-date and user-friendly platform among the three similar programs we’ve tried. Navigating through their lessons and resources is a breeze, making it effortless for kids to access and engage with the material.
Engagement
Mr. D Math stands out as the most engaging teacher in the bunch (at least for us). While Thinkwell comes close, Mr. D Math’s teaching style keeps our attention and interest alive throughout the lessons. And Marc just loves his style and his jokes (these might not work well for all kids, though).
Complete Worked Answers
One thing we love about Mr. D Math is how they provide step-by-step solutions to problems, allowing kids to self-check their work. This feature is not as straightforward in the other two programs, sometimes requiring parental assistance.
Aligned Practice Work
Mr. D Math deserves kudos for ensuring that the practice work aligns perfectly with the lesson at hand. This keeps the learning experience relevant and reinforces the concepts covered. The other two programs fall a bit short in this aspect.
Independence
Independence is a critical skill, and we appreciate how Mr. D fosters it in kids. From the easy-to-use online platform to the self-check answers for their worksheets, the whole curriculum encourages students to take charge of their learning journey. There’s no pressure; instead, it’s all about empowerment and support. The other curricula didn’t quite give us the same vibe.
Live Help
Nothing is more frustrating than feeling stuck without any help. Thankfully, Mr. D Math has got this covered. They offer live help sessions biweekly, giving students a chance to get their questions answered promptly. Additionally, their teachers are just a message away and quick to respond, providing that extra level of support and reassurance.
Final Thoughts on Mr. D
With Mr. D Math’s courses, we’ve experienced firsthand how math can be exciting, enjoyable, and accessible. Mr. D’s dedication to empowering kids and transforming math education is evident in every aspect of his curriculum.
Mr. DiNoia’s teaching philosophy of encouraging independently responsible learners really shines through in his courses. He encourages kids to be independently responsible learners by providing step-by-step answers, easy-to-digest lessons, and a user-friendly platform.
Mr. D Math is all about trusting kids and being there to help them help themselves, and it’s working wonders for our homeschool.
Marc has become more than just a math student thanks to mr D Math’s self-paced learning approach. He became an independent learner, problem solver, and a math-confident explorer. And he is happily learning his way through Mr. D Math Geometry Honors this school year, which is something I didn’t think we would be doing in 7th grade, but Mr. D is just that accessible!
So what are you waiting for? Give a try to Mr D Math with the free demo courses and witness the shift for yourself.
And hey, if you end up falling in love with it like we did, don’t forget to thank me later! 😉🌟
