When FreedomProject Academy offered us the chance to review their Homeschool Track for Formal Logic (for high schoolers), I was intrigued but also a little skeptical. Teaching formal logic is no small feat—especially when it’s being done through pre-recorded videos rather than live interaction. As a homeschool mom balancing work and teaching responsibilities, I needed something flexible but still high-quality.
Since the program uses the highly regarded Memoria Press Traditional Logic curriculum—which I had already been considering—I saw this as a great opportunity to explore how FPA’s approach compared to other options. The teacher is on-screen, walking students through the course content step by step while taking notes. For Marc, this shorter, focused format helped him stay engaged without feeling bogged down by heavy lectures.
Pacing Guide and Lesson Breakdown
FPA enhances the Memoria Press’ teacher-centered curriculum by providing a clear pacing guide and structured lesson breakdown. This feature takes the guesswork out of planning, allowing parents to seamlessly fit the material into a typical school year. For busy families, this thoughtful organization saves time and ensures the course flows logically and effectively.

What We Thought About It
One of the biggest strengths of this program is its short, pre-recorded video lessons making a dense subject like formal logic easier to manage. This format worked well for Marc, as the bite-sized approach allowed him to absorb the material more effectively.
I also appreciated how the course was broken down into manageable sections for us, making it easy to follow and fit into our schedule. The fact that it was delivered through Canvas added a layer of convenience, as the platform kept everything organized and accessible in one place.
From a logic standpoint, Marc gained valuable skills from this course. The structured curriculum provided him with a solid foundation in both basic and advanced logic concepts, which I believe will benefit him in his future studies.
That said, the Homeschool Track has a unique structure that places more responsibility on parents for grading and progress tracking. Its reliance on parent-led grading and the absence of answer keys might present challenges for families juggling multiple responsibilities. Adding these features could enhance the program’s value and usability. Families seeking additional support, such as teacher grading and accreditation, might find the Live Academy or Anytime Academy tracks to be a better fit for their needs.

What We Loved (and Didn’t Love)
What Worked ✅
- The Curriculum: Memoria Press’s Traditional Logic is a time-tested, classical curriculum. It covers both the basics (like syllogisms) and more advanced concepts (like hypothetical reasoning). The material is solid, no question.
- Short Lessons: Those 20–30 minute videos make a potentially dry subject feel more manageable. Marc appreciated not being stuck in front of a screen for an hour at a time.
- Structured Assignments: The quizzes and exercises helped reinforce what Marc learned in each lesson. They gave us a clear way to track progress.
- Pacing and Organization: I appreciated the clear pacing guide and how the course was broken down into manageable sections. This structure made it simple to fit the material into our schedule without needing to plan it out myself.
- Canvas Platform: The course being hosted on Canvas was a bonus. The platform kept everything organized and easy to access, allowing us to navigate the lessons and track Marc’s progress effortlessly.
What Could Be Better ❌
- Parent-Led Grading & No Answer Keys: While the Homeschool Track offers flexibility, it relies on parent-led grading for most assignments, which may be challenging for families juggling multiple responsibilities. Providing additional grading support or answer keys could enhance the program’s overall value and usability. We ended u buying the teacher’s manual from Memoria Press for the answers because the online quizzes seem to be identical to the ones in Memoria Press’ Quizzes & Tests.
- The Price: At $650–$725 per course, plus a $250 enrollment fee and additional costs for materials, the Homeschool Track represents a significant investment right now. Families should consider whether its parent-led grading and flexibility align with their needs and priorities. The planned 2025 pricing reduction to $350 for the Homeschool Track makes the program more budget-friendly.

The Results So Far
Since starting FreedomProject Academy’s logic program, I’ve noticed a few encouraging changes in Marc’s thinking and approach to learning.
